A-League Men: Perth Glory young gun Joel Anasmo heads to Korean giants Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on loan

Perth Glory have watched another talented WA youngster walk out the door — albeit potentially temporarily — with fan favourite Joel Anasmo heading to Korean giants Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on loan.

The 20 year-old has penned a short-term loan deal with the K-League 1 side after making 22 appearances across two seasons, with Jeonbuk having an option to extend his loan or sign him on a permanent basis, subject to a transfer fee being agreed.

Anasmo, played for Floreat Athena before joining Glory’s academy, will stay with Jeonbuk — who are coached by former Chelsea star Gus Poyet — until June.

An exciting winger, Anasmo scored on debut for his hometown club last season but only started one game over the course of his two years.

His lack of starting minutes has been a topic of discussion among Glory fans this season given his blistering speed and ability to beat players off the dribble.

Glory coach David Zdrilic confirmed the move was in the works last week, with Jeonbuk officially confirming the signing this week.

Anasmo’s departure means he is the fourth WA youngster on the Glory’s books in the past two two years to move to a big overseas club.

Daniel Bennie signed a deal with QPR last off-season, while academy products James Overy (Manchester United) and Robert Cook (Leeds United) left before even playing a game for the club.

Rising star Jaylan Pearman is also set to join close friend and fellow Australian under-20 Asian Cup winner Bennie at QPR after this season, although that deal is yet to be officially announced yet.
