Former West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen has used social media to take a swipe at his detractors after his first season since defecting from the struggling Eagles ended in premiership glory.
The key forward, who joined back-to-back flag-winners Brisbane in free agency last year, contributed two goals as they toppled Fremantle by seven points in an all-time thriller of a grand final last Saturday.
The 27-year-old managed 25 majors across his debut campaign in maroon, blue and gold, the middle stages of which was interrupted by a foot injury which forced him to the sidelines for more than three months.
On Saturday night, Allen took to Instagram to acknowledge both his supporters and his critics.
“Thank you to everyone who has made our first year in Queensland the best of my life,” the caption to Allen’s post read.
“All the love and support has kept me going through the tough times.
“And thanks to those who wrote me off. I’ll stay in there rent free. Can’t take this one away from me.”
Brisbane have had no reservations around publicly revelling in the triumph of winning their third consecutive premiership in the week after the season decider.
Superstar midfielder Will Ashcroft has been at the forefront of their public messages to supposed critics, with the two-time Norm Smith medallist clearly remaining aggrieved to have been overlooked for a place in the All Australian side.
“Grateful to finally get my blazer four weeks late. Stay mad,” read an Instagram story he posted of him wearing a coat on the MCG in the minutes after the end of the grand final, which was accompanied by two clown emojis.
At the club’s best and fairest award on Thursday night, outgoing coach Chris Fagan took a swipe at star Docker Jordan Clark when declaring his belief rebounding defender Darcy Wilmot should have been selected as an All Australian.
Fagan, who stepped down in the days after his side completed their premiership three-peat, reportedly contacted Clark to apologise on Saturday.
