The South West has a new community centre with the official opening of the new Dalyellup Library and Youth Hub on the weekend.
The $13.86 million project features a multifunctional library and technology lounge, youth hub, a digital makerspace with a 3D printer, podcast studio, and recording facilities, shared meeting rooms and studios, a commercial kitchen for catering, cooking classes, and nutrition workshops and an onsite cafe.
A range of after-school programs for children and young people aged 10 to 17 will begin at the youth hub from term three.
Shire of Capel president John Fergusson said the Dalyellup Library and Youth Hub is a place where people of all ages can come together to learn and connect.
“Projects of this scale are never delivered by one person or one organisation,” he said.
“They succeed because all of the various people and stakeholders come together with a shared vision, solve challenges collaboratively and remain focused on delivering the very best outcome.”
Cr Fergusson said he was incredibly proud of this facility, and even more proud of what it represents.
“It reflects our commitment to investing in our growing community and creating spaces where people feel welcome, supported and connected,” he said.
“We want to see people from across our shire and the wider South West come here and engage with the various programs, learning and service areas available.
“This state-of-the-art facility says ‘we value you’ to our community and, as a council, we stand entirely united in saying that.”
Acting Sport and Recreation Minister John Carey said the new facility will give the Dalyellup community a place to get involved, learn new skills and connect with others.
“I’m looking forward to seeing people of all ages enjoy this facility for many years to come,” he said.
Bunbury MLA Don Punch said it was fantastic to see the “outstanding” new community hub open its doors to the people of Dalyellup, Bunbury, and the wider South West community.
“I’m proud to see our Government working alongside the Shire of Capel and Lotterywest to deliver a facility that reflects the aspirations of our growing community,” he said.
“As Dalyellup continues to grow, it’s important that local families have access to quality spaces where they can upskill, create and connect.”
