The Pentagon on Monday released the names of two U.S. service members who were killed in Jordan when Iran launched missiles at a military base there.
First Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, was killed in action on Saturday, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, was killed in action on Friday, the Pentagon said in a statement.
Lieutenant Feehan was assigned to the 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command in Fort Bragg, N.C., and Private Gonzales was assigned to the 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command in Ansbach, Germany.
Another service member was killed in northern Iraq during the disposal of a downed Iranian attack drone on Saturday, the Pentagon said. That individual’s identity has not been released. The fatalities raised to 17 the number of U.S. military personnel confirmed to have been killed in the war since the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on Feb. 28.
The Iranian missile barrage that killed the two service members in Jordan also left another soldier missing. On Sunday, a U.S. official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the matter said that remains recovered at scene were believed to be those of the missing soldier.
The deaths came during a week of spiraling attacks by both sides. American forces launched a new round of attacks in Iran on Sunday, according to U.S. Central Command.
