Almost five days on from the terrifying attack, Helen Haines’ condition has improved.
The 65-year-old federal MP sustained lower body injuries after being repeatedly pinned against her car by a LandCruiser allegedly driven by 43-year-old Brendan Nugent on October 19.
Dr Haines’ had both of her legs amputated in an effort to save her life and has been in a critical condition since.
On Saturday morning, a spokesperson for The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne revealed that her condition had improved.
Dr Haines is in a “serious but stable condition”, they said.
It comes after a nationwide vigil was held for the MP on Friday night.
The Alfred Hospital is expected to provide a further update on Dr Haines’ condition on Saturday afternoon.
More to come…
