A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued as a strong weather system develops over parts of the Goldfields Midlands.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued the warning at 2.06pm on Saturday for people living in Warburton — a remote Aboriginal community located on the Great Central Road.
“A trough across the South Interior is interacting with a moist and unstable airmass. Strong upper-level winds are providing additional support for organised thunderstorms capable of becoming severe,” the warning stated.
“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.”
Emergency WA issued a storm advice, telling people in the area “you need to act now and stay safe”.
Residents are advised to do the below:
- Pack away, secure or tie down outdoor furniture, trampolines and other loose items around your home that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds.
- Prepare an emergency kit with a radio that runs off batteries, a torch, spare batteries and a first aid kit.
- Review your plan and make sure everyone in your household knows what to do.
- Be prepared to stay indoors when the storm hits.
